"Best game of Atomica ever" is perhaps not so much to recommend a day.

I planted seeds, though.
(Literally, I mean. Lemon catnip. After rubbing them between sheets of sandpaper, as directed. The cats love the demon weed but dislike citrus. This should be interesting.)

Time-wasters ahoy! I was never as interested in the Kevin Bacon game as some people I know, but I swear I felt my eyes light up when I saw The Covers Project. I am going through all my CDs when I get home; I bet I have some that aren't in there yet.

Okay, everyone in the world has pointed out the whiny letter from Amazon in response to the even more annoying Author's Guild's bitching about used book sales. What I want to know is, where were the Author's Guild three years ago when I was still buying things from Amazon? They had used book sales then. Not that I object to people giving Amazon a hard time, but this is awfully dumb and might well hurt some businesses I do like. (Neil Gaiman agrees with me [search for the entry from 6:48pm on April 10], as does Cory Doctorow. As does every person I've talked to about this. What is the Guild on, anyway?)

Want to be the next Dracula? ([livejournal.com profile] baratron, you might even have a chance if he doesn't pay close attention.)

I know what I'm doing tonight. Kitchen science experiments! Must buy eggs.

Guerrilla poetry on Google. I'm sorry I didn't see any of this. I think it's a great idea.

And then there is a supercolony of ants. I don't think I agree with the assumption at the end of the article that natural selection should decrease the likelihood of the supercolony's persistence; especially in an environment where the ants are a non-native species, the pressure might lead the workers to strive for the supercolony just the same. It would be cooler that way. (Also, they can't have it both ways: are the ants all close enough genetically to recognize each other, or are many workers unrelated to queens?) You never can tell with the Hymenoptera.

(That should really be "you never can tell with life," I just didn't think that Winnie-the-Pooh would make a very good Jeff Goldblum.)
