I have been a bit quiet. It's because I'm planning my wedding.

To the person who drew Kiki as Jay and Bun-Bun as Silent Bob. Do you think he'll say yes?

Monday night
Wim and I went to see Ursula LeGuin speak at Benaroya Hall. It was very good. I wished I'd brought a recorder of some kind, because her use of language is a joy. Considering her past publications, I suppose I will see it in print eventually, but I'd really like to go back over the parts I spaced out during. There were questions at the end, but not enough of them, and they were carefully chosen by the ushers. That part was a little disappointing, but I'm sure she had other things to do than hang out until midnight answering all and sundry. I am just spoiled by some other very cool authors.

When Wim and I got out of Benaroya, we walked up to 4th to catch our bus back to Fremont, where we'd left our bikes. On the way, there was a light burned out that turned the Men's Wearhouse into the Men's earhouse. There was much glee.

Once we got to Fremont, we biked back home (rather than waiting half an hour for a bus to get us closer). The idea was that we'd bike to the bottom of the Ave and then get one of the more frequent buses up it, but that never works. Once I start biking I get stubborn about it, and also endorphin-laden. So as we biked along 45th, we passed a man with a five-gallon bucket of doughnuts. (The bucket even had "Winchell's" printed on it. I had no idea that the bucket-o'-doughnuts was an actual product.) "Want to gain your calories back?" he asked. We politely declined.

Yesterday
I had PMS and Wim and I had sort of a hard talk. I emailed in sick to work, since I wasn't feeling that great either, and we had breakfast and talked until we felt better. Wim went off to work around noon, but I was still feeling icky so I didn't go to work even though I'd said I'd try to go in that afternoon.

Having developed a craving for cherry pie, I went out around three in search of some. Between checking Trader Joe's (no pies but frozen pumpkin) and City Greens (frozen pumpkin and frozen apple, but no cherry), I got caught in a wonderful downpour. It did occur to me that being sick and drenched wasn't a great idea, but I couldn't do anything but enjoy it while it went on. I had my raincoat, and it was fairly pissing down. When I was nearly to City Greens, there was a big group of little schoolchildren behind me, and they were really fun to watch.

I got some videos (not realizing that Daylight Saving Time would mean it wouldn't be dark until 8:30) and walked up to Whole Foods Market. Yes, I do go to lengths of over ten blocks to avoid that Safeway. It is bad, I tell you. WFM did have cherry pies, for ridiculous prices, and I got one and some ice cream, along with various other stuff. (Pink grapefruit marmalade. Yow.)

So I had my cherry pie, my leftover beef stew, my comfort reading, and my Mahou Tsukai Tai.

Today
I'm not feeling much better, but I came to work. I needed to check on things here and I don't have a lot of paid sick time built up. (It resets at the beginning of the year, and I haven't been feeling great this year.) Besides, there's speedy internet here.

Hug. That Safeway is scary. But there are always cute (to me) college girls in there when I go. It's a dilemma.
