jinianI'm taking down posters. I have sort of meant to do this for a while, but it feels very strange to really do it. The Gashlycrumb Tinies are down from the living room; they will be replaced by a map of England, once I find my map of England. (The map of Australasia is on the same wall. It's going to be "other continents I have visited".) My Michael Parkes "Gargoyles" print is down. It's on very thick paper, so rolling it up was a strange reversal of fisting -- first you have to stick your whole arm in, then very slowly you can work your way down to a couple of fingers. Death of the Endless is down, and there's an outline on the wall where she was. I carefully washed lampblack off the bottom of the poster with a damp cloth.
It's because of the new painting I bought on Friday. My apartment manager gave me a break on the rent, so I got what I'd been wanting. (Picture available tomorrow, most likely.) Maybe I'm clearing space so I can decide where it will go.
What will come down? What will stay? Purple moons and stars scarf above the bed. Glowy stars on the bedroom walls. Photo I took from the top of Ayers Rock. Half a six-pack of birds. Quotable women. The collage it took me fifteen years to finish. The circlet Nikki gave me with beads and gold leaves hanging down. Bright blue knotwork sarong behind the fishtank.
What will go up? Sark's How to be an artist, most likely. The poppy painting. Map of England. Maybe one of the fancy papers I bought yesterday. Maybe I'll put together another collage in the frame I got for Christmas. Maybe I'll start working on that quilt, or paint a sheet of silk, or buy a Totoro wall scroll. And I have this old movie poster of Gamera.
I suppose I'll have to wait and see what happens.
