I'm supposed to have been sent a copy of that Concussed thing. I must poke people about it.
Making dinner plans early is often a good idea, but sometimes wonderful people just serendipitously are around. I had lunch one day at Interthingy with Pat Hodgell and Guy Consulmagno and another interesting astronomer whose name I've forgotten, because I was on a panel with Pat and we were talking and they were all going to have lunch and took me along. Now I never even eat lunch... and that reminds me of the time years ago at Convocation in Cambridge where rysmiel and I decided not to let the fact we'd already eaten dinner stop us from going out for dinner with Steve Brust.
Actually what I like to do is to plan to eat dinner with a couple of people and then add more if I happen to get the chance, and thus combine planning and serendipity so I don't end up just drinking miso soup in my room.
